I am currently facilitating a therapy group for women called Healing Trauma; which is designed for women who have been abused or suffered trauma. One of the primary objectives of this group is to have the women in the group begin to trust one another and start to develop healthy relationships (instead of competitive) with other women so they have a new support system. Having a healthy support system (I like to call them friends) is so important for your mental health. Good friends are good for your health- they help you stay resilient and they make you feel like you are not alone on this journey. Good friends are there to help you celebrate good times, make you laugh and provide support during bad times. Friends boost your happiness and reduce stress.
A study of 3,000 nurses with breast cancer found that those without friends were four times as likely to die as those with ten or more friends. And here’s something amazing: the women didn’t have to see or even be in touch with those friends for the friendship to have a protective effect. And just last year Harvard University researchers found that a good network of friends could promote brain health and improve memory function as we age.
After having an amazing weekend with my friends it got me to thinking: I don't know what I did to deserve all the wonderful people I have in my life, but whatever it is I can not be more fortunate. We watch each other grow, we let each other grow, we may not agree on everything, but we never walk away. My friends make me laugh, encourage me, push me, make me see things differently, and always will make time. One thing is for certain- my life would definitely be a lot less interesting without my friends - whoever would I be reckless with :)
Love, Love, Love- Nothing but LOVE for you all! You are all my Sunshine is your own unique ways.
